INTRODUCTION

Greetings and welcome to my adventure into the world of using AI tools in ESL instruction! We'll dive into a fascinating topic in this blog that looks at how artificial intelligence (AI) can completely change the way we interact, evaluate, and help our students. The course promises to be a game-changer for educators, from using Quizizz, Kahoot!, Quizalize, and Question Well to create interactive quizzes to using AI for individualized feedback and project-based learning.

My initial feelings as we started this module were one of excitement and wonder. AI has a huge amount of potential for education, therefore I was excited to investigate how these tools could improve our methods of teaching. My expectations were to explore new methods to enhance the interactive nature of learning, deliver prompt feedback, and customize assessments to cater to the varied requirements of our students. Come along with me as we explore these new tools and how they influence the classroom while exchanging ideas and firsthand accounts.

DEVELOPMENT (REFLECTION ON KEY CONCEPTS):

What were the most important concepts you learned in this module?

As I reflect back on the module, a few crucial ideas come to mind as being really powerful. With live quizzes and self-paced challenges, game-based learning platforms such as Kahoot! have the ability to dramatically improve student engagement while making learning enjoyable and dynamic. The significance of customized and varied evaluations was emphasized by resources such as Quizalize, which adapted questions to suit various student skill levels and met a range of learning requirements. The effectiveness of generating different kinds of questions, saving time and ensuring alignment with learning outcomes, was demonstrated by AI-driven question production using tools like Question Well. The goal of Quizizz's Bloom's Taxonomy Higher Order Questions Generator was to foster critical thinking abilities by generating questions that call for synthesis, analysis, and evaluation. The module emphasized the importance of thorough feedback processes, utilizing precise rubrics to provide specific and helpful feedback and AI tools like ChatGPT for individualized input. Last but not least, using AI technologies into summative evaluations, such as project-based learning, offered a comprehensive method of measuring student performance, considering both knowledge and the capacity to apply information in practical contexts. My grasp of AI in ELT has grown as a result of these ideas, which offer useful tools and techniques to improve the educational experience for students.

How did these concepts challenge your previous understanding of English

language teaching?

These ideas introduced new ways that I had not previously given much thought to, which severely challenged my preconceived ideas about English language instruction. In the past, I depended on more traditional techniques for engagement and assessment, like traditional lectures and written tests. nevertheless the course illustrated how students can learn more effectively and enjoyably by transforming the classroom into a dynamic and interactive environment through the use of game-based learning platforms like Kahoot! My generic methodology was called into question by Quizalize's implementation of the personalized and differentiated assessment concept, which emphasizes the significance of designing tests to fit the various needs and skills of students. I wasn't aware that I could achieve the level of efficiency and accuracy that powered by AI question generation tools like Question Well offered, enabling quick generation of a variety of aligned and varied questions. My emphasis has switched to encouraging critical thinking and deeper comprehension as a result of the emphasis on analytical skills provided by resources like Quizizz's Bloom's Taxonomy Higher Order Questions Generator. In order to genuinely assist student advancement, comprehensive feedback mechanisms—particularly those that use AI for specific feedback—underline the significance of timely and targeted input, going beyond general remarks. Last but not least, the incorporation of AI into project-based learning and summative assessments demonstrated a more comprehensive method of assessing student performance, promoting the application of information in real-world contexts. All of these ideas increased my viewpoint and demonstrated how AI may improve and revolutionize teaching the English language in ways I had not before imagined.

How do you plan to apply these concepts in your future teaching?

I want to use these ideas in a few powerful ways when I teach in the future. In order to make classes more dynamic and engaging, I will first use game-based learning platforms like Kahoot! I will also use self-paced challenges and live quizzes to keep students interested and engaged. Additionally, I'll use tools like Quizalize to design differentiated and individualized tests, making sure that the questions are made to fit the various needs and skill levels of my students. I will use powered by AI question generation tools like Question Well, which will enable me to quickly develop a variety of question types that are in line with my learning objectives, to save time and improve the quality of my assessments. I will create questions that promote critical thinking and a deeper comprehension using Quizizz's Bloom's Taxonomy Higher Order Questions Generator, with an emphasis on higher-order thinking abilities.

In addition, I will set in place comprehensive feedback structures, using AI programs like ChatGPT to give students individualized feedback and developing thorough checklists and rubrics to give them specific and constructive criticism. Students will have a clearer understanding of their areas of improvement and development as an outcome.

CONCLUSION AND KEY LEARNINGS:

How will the knowledge gained from this module influence your teaching

methods?

This module has changed the way I teach by highlighting the value of artificial intelligence tools. Engaging and interactive educational materials, such as those offered by Kahoot!, will increase student participation. Quizalize's personalized tests will meet the requirements of a wide range of students by providing suitable challenges and assistance. Question Well's powered by AI question generating will make it easier to create evaluations that are both aligned and diverse. Using Quizizz's resources to emphasize deeper thinking will encourage greater comprehension and critical thinking. Comprehensive feedback systems that use AI to provide individualized feedback will provide students with timely and targeted information. Comprehensive evaluations will be produced by incorporating AI into project-based learning and summative exams. My teaching will become more dynamic, effective, and student-centered as a result of these findings, increasing involvement, individualized support, and the growth of critical thinking.

Can you think of a specific lesson or activity where you could apply what

you’ve learned?

I'm going to put what I've learned to use by creating a literary text interpretation lesson for my English language learners. An interactive Kahoot! quiz will be utilized to assess students' comprehension of the main literary concepts after an introduction to the session. After that, using Quizalize to assess various passages from short stories or novels, students will be separated into groups according to their skill levels. Question Well will create personalized questions for each group. I'll usee Quizizz to develop questions of greater difficulty that ask students to assess and analyze themes and characters in order to promote critical thinking. Lastly, I'll use ChatGPT to provide each student customized comments and encourage them to think back on their analysis. To increase engagement and promote a deeper comprehension of literature, this method combines AI tools with interactive and multiple tasks.

INCORPORATION OF CONTENT CREATED WITH AI:

Creating a Rubric with ChatGPT

Using ChatGPT, I developed a detailed rubric for assessing students' English composition skills. The rubric includes criteria such as coherence, structure, and language use, with levels ranging from "Excellent" to "Needs Improvement." This AI-generated tool ensures comprehensive, objective evaluation and clear feedback. It demonstrates how AI can enhance writing instruction by providing clear guidelines and actionable insights for students' improvement.

I created this checklist for an English teacher using ChatGPT. This checklist covers key areas to ensure effective lesson planning and classroom management.

With ChatGPT’s help, I crafted this Observation Sheet. This observation sheet helps in evaluating different aspects of the teacher’s performance and the effectiveness of the syntax lesson, providing a structured way to capture observations and feedback.

I created this quiz using Quizalize. This wonderful tool makes the task of crafting quiz very easy. The great feature of the AI tool is that we can export to other platforms to launch it at a desired pace. Also, we can print it and give students individual sheet of papers. It’s just amazing!!!
